The Red Sea Project

The Red Sea Project is a Saudi tourism project that was announced on July 31, 2017 AD by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and was inaugurated on October 9, 2023 AD.[1][2][3][4][5] ] The total area of ​​the project is about 34 thousand square kilometers and includes more than 90 natural islands[6] between the regions of Umluj and Al-Wajh. Visitors do not need a Saudi entry visa as the regulations applied in the project differ from those of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,[7] in February 2019. Work has begun on the first phase of the project, which is concerned with preparing the basic infrastructure for establishing the project, such as building workers’ housing and constructing temporary roads necessary to continue work. When completed in 2030, the Red Sea project will consist of 50 hotels providing up to 8,000 hotel rooms and approximately 1,300 residential properties distributed over 22 islands and six inland locations. The destination will also include a luxury marina, and many entertainment and recreation facilities.[9] The Red Sea project received an average of 84 out of 100 points in the global rating assessment related to environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) practices conducted by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Index (GRESB).
